They left like birds; laughing one minute and in a better place the next. Using equipment that a high school student could only dream of using, I was able to map apoptosis versus necrosis in HeLa cells, a cervical cancer line, after treating them with curcumin-bound nanoparticles. Like the phoenix I will continue to rise from the ashes, experienced and renewed. I will not waste time for my life is already in flux. The Sonora Eagles were my means for dealing with the death of my loved ones to cancer. I was never fully aware of how closely humans rely upon each other until I read The Fall of Freddy the Leaf by Leo Buscaglia in freshman year. As branch president, I organize events from small stands at public gatherings to 60-person dinner fundraisers in order to raise both money and awareness. I’ve learned how to encourage my peers to meet deadlines, to work around 30 different schedules at once, and to give presentations convincing people why my organization is worth their donation. But overall, ADPP has taught me that small changes can have immense impacts. My branch has helped raise almost $3,000 to build water sanitation plants, construct medical clinics, and develop health education programs in the small village of Zwedru. The difference between ADPP and most other organizations is its emphasis on the basics and making changes that last. This past summer, I had the privilege of participating in the University of Notre Dame’s Research Experience for Undergraduates program . This is a college essay that worked for Harvard University. Using this collected data, it was possible to determine if the curcumin and/or the nanoparticles had played any significant role on the cervical cancer cells. Later, I was able to image cells in 4D through con-focal microscopy. From growing HeLa cells to trying to kill them with different compounds, I was able to gain the hands-on experience necessary for me to realize once again why I love science. The allegory is about a leaf that changes with the seasons, finally dying in the winter, realizing that his purpose was to help the tree thrive. After reading it, I was enlightened on the cycle of life and realized the tremendous impact my actions had on others. The exploration led me to the African Disease Prevention Project , a non-profit organization associated with several universities. I decided to create the first high school branch of the organization; I liked its unique way of approaching health and social issues. Rather than just raising money and channeling it through third parties, each branch “adopts” one village and travels there to provide for its basic needs. Yet I've realized that life is fickler than I had imagined; it can disappear or change at any time. Several of my family members left this world in one last beating symphony; heart attacks seem to be a trend in my family. I believe my purpose as a student is to encourage others to become active community members and motivate them to reach new heights. The Sonora Eagles were students of different grade levels, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and educational ability. The most important moment occurred during the night’s luminaria ceremony, during which cancer patients of the past and present were commemorated. Our whole team gathered around, and I asked people to share how they have been affected by cancer. This is a college essay that worked for Duke University. So, I will forgive and forget, love and inspire, experience and satire, laugh and cry, accomplish and fail, live and die. This is how I want to live my life, with this optimistic attitude that every day is a second chance. All the time, we have the opportunity to renew our perspective on life, to correct our mistakes, and to simply move on.

Aside from the falls, the creek is largely overlooked. Nearly all of the high school students I know who cross that bridge daily do so with no thought of the creek below. A completed great admissions essay does everything outlined above. There is not a time I play my clarinet or guitar, step up to a microphone to sing, or take a bow after a performance that I do not wonder what my donor would think of me. I have done most of my studying up to this point at home, and I believe I am ready to move forward into a new setting. The environment at St. John’s is stimulating, and I think it offers me a great opportunity to advance. I am excited about being able to break down and analyze the great philosophers and scientific minds of history, and I believe St. John’s will give me the best opportunity to do just that. When I leave the house I usually use my Kindle for convenience. Now, I keep my library card thin and toned, exercising it regularly. The workers at our local bookstores know me by name, and I keep business booming all the time. My house has always been full of books, from P.D. Technology has a few benefits, like being able to have many books in one place. I can have a large waiting list of my preferred books, all downloaded and ready to read. This was the complete opposite anything I had seen argued before. Plato and Thomas Aquinas, for instance, had both made reason and integral part of morality. Aquinas’s view is known as Moral Rationalism for a reason. When we read Plato in class, I had agreed with him. I considered feelings something to be controlled by reason. So, it can help your student if you can throw out some ideas too. Reading has always been my passion and it likely always will. Yet here was Hume, acting like reason didn’t matter. Describe your reading habits and discuss an aspect of a particular book that has been important in shaping your thoughts. Whenever I encounter something new, as my math teacher said, I have a habit of viewing it with the suspicious eyes. Eastman and Dr. Seuss to an ‘80s edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica my parents rescued from a sidewalk and the entire Great Books collection we inherited from my grandmother. No matter how many times we organize, a week after the last effort I’ll come across a scientific cookbook next to a German-English dictionary (Cassell’s) and Isaac Asimov’sGuide to Shakespeare. The only bookcase in my house I can reliably locate things on contains my Doctor Who novels, whatever Shakespeare plays I haven’t taken out, and a selection of classic sci-fi. The biggest moment of clarity that occurred through a book came from my ethics class. Then, why this way is or isn’t working or linked causes me to ponder continuously. For me, the process of learning is full of wonderful and surprising events. As I go with the flow of thinking, I often find myself at far-off place from where I originally started. Sometimes pieces of thought which seem to be completely irrelevant to one another, before I know become connected and make one amazing, completed puzzle of my own making. These unexpected enlightenments, which I call my “Ah-ha” moments, give me butterflies and make my heart flutter.

College Admission Essay

College Admission Essay If your study of AP biology conflicts with your religious views, write about that and how you reconciled the two. Take a minute and think about the college or university admission officers who will be reading your essay. How will your essay convey your background and what makes you unique? If you had the opportunity to stand in front of an admission committee to share a significant story or important information about yourself, what would you say? These are the stories behind the list of activities and leadership roles on your application. The essay is supposed to be reflective of the STUDENT, not the parent, and admissions reps are hoping to get a better picture of the applicant’s individuality and unique attributes. It is very easy for a rep to recognize an essay that has been coached someone other than the student. The college application essay is your chance to share your personality, goals, influences, challenges, triumphs, life experiences, or lessons learned. Not to mention why you're a good fit for the college or universityâ€"and why it's a good fit for you. Further, if you have parents who know grammar and writing conventions and can recognize flaws, go ahead and ask parents to help. For many students, finding an objective evaluator who is not a relative to help edit the essay is the best bet. Having a degree in English and being a published writer of college planning articles, and having edited hundreds of essays for students, I would be happy to help you too. Now parents â€" you all know the difference between fixing typographical errors and making massive substantive changes to your child’s essay, right? If your top activity is swimming, don’t write about the big championship meet. Find something else that reveals something new and that shows you put a lot of thought into your essay. When searching for stories from your history, choose incidents that allowed you to learn and grown. Don't be afraid to use a failure in your story; colleges know that students are humans and that failure is a natural part of life. The personal statement is your opportunity to reveal something about yourself that can’t be found anywhere else in your application â€" use it! Unfortunately, too many cooks spoil the pot, so to speak…and kids easily get confused when parents, English teachers, their counselor, and their friends all have different advice. Students should familiarize themselves with the campuses to which they are applying , understand the prompt, and answer from the heart. When parents get involved in the nitty gritty of a college application, some families find conflict arises. If your situation is one where parents can offer opinions that are helpful and if you are the kind of student who is open to listening to suggestions, then surely parents can be good editors. The majority of these anecdotes are drawn from ridiculous mistakes college applicants make in their college essays. The ultimate point of a college essay is to engage and hopefully convince the reader that you would be an asset on that campus. Many students use this essay to expound upon activities or interests that are already heavily demonstrated in their application through courses, the activity list, and more. Instead of reinforcing a top activity or interest, instead, write about something that reveals another dimension of your life or personality. Remember â€" the admissions officers read thousands of essays every admissions season, and they can spot an overly polished essay a mile away. So â€" yes â€" it’s fine to take a quick read to look for spelling errors, but it’s not fine to write your child’s essay for him or her. There is a funny article in “The Daily Beast” by Kristina Dell that shares the anecdotes of college admissions counselors from this year’s record batch of applications. Many of the anecdotes revolve around silly or even comical things students do during the course of the college admissions process.

When Warren was asked about haphazard mistakes students make, he recounted one college essay example. I began to appreciate the nuances of a person’s writing style, how diction, syntax, sentence length, and dialogue could play together like chemicals and making a book simmer, bubble, foam, or explode. And an appreciation for the finer point of writing has widened the genres I readâ€"from fantasy to classics, autobiographies to mysteries, nonfiction to adventure and beyond. I still read voraciously, but now I read deeply as well. In middle school my two favorite book series were Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. In your essay, remember to be yourself and speak in your voice. Easily avoidable mistakes, like not checking that the entire essay is copied into the application, can harm your application prospects. At a recent student retreat, everyone in my class was asked to draw a timeline of our lives. There are a lot of ways I could break up my life timeline, from states I lived in to schools I’ve attended, but I could also break it up by my favorite book . In first grade, my mother bought me the first five Junie B. Jones books, and I was hooked. What I found so appealing about her character was how unapologetic she was about her oddities. When the other students at Hogwarts made fun of her and called her names she responded with kindness, because she knew in her heart she was brave and smart, and didn’t seek anyone else’s approval. I drew on her strength often during the rough and awkward moments of middle school. Start early.Make a list of the number of essays you need to write and their deadlines. Over the next two years, things were at times still hard, but gradually improved. My parents decided to start anew, took some time apart, then got back together. Sophomore year, I started an engineering club and found that I had a talent for managing people and encouraging them to create an idea even if it failed. I also learned how to take feedback and become more resilient. Here, I could nerd-out about warp drives and the possibility of anti-matter without being ignored. I would give a weekly report on new technology and we would have hour-long conversations about the various uses a blacker material could have. I began spending more time in our garage, carefully constructing planes from sheets of foam. That must be why I always had to be the one to approach people during my volunteer hours at the public library to offer help--no one ever asked me for it. I resolved to alter my mindset, taking a new approach to the way I lived. From now on I would emphasize qualitative experiences over quantitative skills. Despite knowing how to execute these very particular tasks, I currently fail to understand how to change a tire, how to do my taxes efficiently, or how to obtain a good insurance policy. A factory-model school system that has been left essentially unchanged for nearly a century has been the driving force in my educational development. As I was rejected from StuGo for the second year in a row, I discovered I had been wrongfully measuring my life through numbers--my football statistics, my test scores, my age, my height (I’m short). I had the epiphany that oh wait, maybe it was my fault that I had never prioritized communication skills, or open-mindedness . I was always scared of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda. My school was part of the US Consulate in Dhahran, and when I was in the 8th grade it was threatened by ISIS. In high school, I slowly began to forge a community of creators with my peers. As I further accept and advance new life skills, the more I realize how much remains uncertain in the world. After all, it is quite possible my future job doesn’t exist yet, and that’s okay. Admission While the precise topic of my thesis is undecided, I am particularly interested in Mexico and its development towards a more democratic government. Minoring in Spanish, I have read various pieces of literature from Mexico and have come to respect Mexico and Latin American culture and society. I look forward to conducting this research as it will have a more qualitative tilt than my thesis in psychology, therefore granting an additional understanding of research methodology. As an undergraduate, I was privileged to gain extensive research experience working in a research lab with Dr. Carol. Additionally, my attendance would allow the Political Science department to make a more accurate determination on how well I would fit in to the program than from solely my graduate school application. My interest in attending the University of Rochester in particular, relates to my first semester at OU and the opportunity to take an introductory course in statistics with the now retired Dr. Larry Miller. I continued my statistical training by completing the second graduate statistics course on model comparisons with Dr. Roger Johnson, a Professor in the Psychology Department. The model comparison course was not only the most challenging course I have taken as an undergraduate, but the most important. As the sole undergraduate in the course and only college algebra under my belt, I felt quite intimidated. My inclination towards the varied is not contained to my food habitsâ€"it is a recurring theme throughout my life. I regularly switch from my mom’s house to my dad’s. After spending several weeks studying the EU, its history and present movement towards integration, the class flew to Brussels where we met with officials and proceeded to learn firsthand how the EU functioned. This fall I will embark on writing an additional honors thesis in political science. Many people in this former mining town do not graduate high school and for them college is an idealistic concept, not a reality. Feelings of being trapped in a stagnant environment permeated my mind, and yet I knew I had to graduate high school; I had to get out. Although most of my friends and family did not understand my ambitions, I knew I wanted to make a difference and used their doubt as motivation to press through. Four days after I graduated high school, I joined the U.S. The winter of my seventh grade year, my alcoholic mother entered a psychiatric unit for an attempted suicide. Yet, the rigors of the class compelled me to expand my thinking and learn to overcome any insecurities and deficits in my education. The effort paid off as I earned not only an ‘A’ in the course, but also won the T.O.P.S. award in statistics. This award is given to the top undergraduate student with a demonstrated history of success in statistics. Professor Mitchell obtained a grant to take a class of students to Belgium in order to study the EU. This course revealed a direct correlation between what I had studied in the classroom with the real world. Luckily, I rekindled my love for climbing in high school, and now cannot imagine life without it. My passion for climbing is fueled by the adrenaline that pumps through my veins. I love to play viola; I get a rush communicating without-words to my quartet members in order to convey a musical message. I am at my happiest reading a good book; their complex stories captivate me and I aspire to write a novel of my own. I have a fifteen-year-old sister and a two-year-old brother. It’s a chance to add depth to something that is important to you and tell the admissions committee more about your background or goals. Test scores only tell part of your story, and we want to know more than just how well you work. Take a look at our college essay samplesto get an idea of what colleges are looking for in your essay. Our vision is to be the company that best recognizes and serves the needs of international students around the world. Participating in such a large study from start to finish has validated my interest in academic research as a profession. I come from a small, economically depressed town in Northern Wisconson. I strive to become fluent in Spanish; traveling the world is a dream of mine. Recently, I have discovered that I really like to code; I’m sure in the coming years I will explore things I didn’t know I was interested in. To a casual onlooker, this question may appear inconsequential in its hypothetical nature, but as they say; you are what you eat. I want to make laws that improve my country; all people should have a shot at the American dream. I am passionate about protecting the environment; reducing our effect on global-warming is of the utmost importance to me. I want to help those in need; people still don’t have access to clean water and I want to use my privilege to help change that.

If you can decide on which schools you’ll be applying to early, it’ll be easier to know how much work you have to finish before the Nov. 1st deadlines. Freshman Admissions

Freshman Admissions Dr. Weaver snaps at Carol, telling her that if she is going to go to medical school, she has to stop thinking like a nurse. The implication in Dr. Weaver 's criticism is clear. Nurses worry about the feelings of people, while doctors worry about seeing the next patient or about developing enough distance emotionally so that they can move quickly from one medical crisis to another. Nurses, a profession dominated by women, are the ones who are supposed to soothe over any hurts caused by a too abrupt or too uncaring doctor. My own experiences with hospitals as well as the experiences of friends of mine seem unanimous on this. Nurses were great, and if you were lucky you got a doctor with a decent bedside manner. But for the most part, the professionals who really looked after loved ones were nurses. Part of this is likely the result of the different roles nurses and doctors play within the hierarchy of the hospital. When Carol Hathway announces to the staff of the Cook County ER that she wants to be a doctor, the doctors on staff begin treating her differently. Dr. Kerry Weaver asks her to perform procedures as if she were already a med student. While Carol is uncomfortable with this, she does perform well. Her skill at those procedures seems to make the point that nurses who excel at their profession are as skilled as doctors in some ways. However, later in the episode, when a mother 's young child dies, Carol insists on giving the parent time with the child to grieve, rather than moving her out of the room to make way for incoming patients. In these countries, so-called academic essays, also called papers, are usually more formal than literary ones. They may still allow the presentation of the writer's own views, but this is done in a logical and factual manner, with the use of the first person often discouraged. They usually think this is because they simply have nothing more to say, which in argumentative writing is not usually the case. Usually the inability to get paragraphs to be long enough is the result of writing paragraphs that are missing key components. He learns about his sense of self and gains a foundation for the rest of his life. This foundation includes the family’s values which provide the basis for his own moral code. Spending time with family shows individuals the value of love, appreciation and open communication. Hospitals divide the labor of caring for sick people among the professions, but because the professions are still dominated by certain genders, the division ends up being one of gender more than job title. Although we like to think of the medical profession as increasingly egalitarian, gender divides still run through it. The process by which doctors are socialized into how to be a doctor comes largely through the mentoring process of medical school. Vocational training within the applied sciences tends to be much more about apprenticeship than about theoretical knowledge. When Carol Hathaway, a long time ER nurse, decides to go back to med school and become a doctor, the MDs in the ER treat her very differently. But in the home, Family teaches children about habits, discipline which not only help them to find a job but also help them to live a perfect life in future. When babies come out from mother’s womb, they see their parents first and thereafter they spent most of the time with their family until go to school. During that 3 or 4 years is really important for babies to get to know some basic habits from parents, sisters or brothers. So on that period, they get to know many things from family. None of you going to teach bad habits for your baby, I believe. Parents have to be careful in actions in front of their babies because your baby learns habits and discipline from you only. Family is important because it provides love, support and a framework of values to each of its members. Family members teach each other, serve one another and share life’s joys and sorrows. Family is the single most important influence in a child’s life. Instead of just having her do the kind of grunt work nurses usually get stuck with, they have her do some of the procedures that the med students usually do. Carol looks uncomfortable with this, but she does well. However, students are more concerned when they can 't get their paragraphs to be even a third of a page long. From their first moments of life, children depend on parents and family to protect them and provide for their needs. Parents and family form a child’s first relationships. Family provides all members with security, identity and values, regardless of age. When a member of the family feels insecure or unsafe, he turns to his family for help.

Economics Essay - 1375 Words

Economics (Essay Sample) Content: Name:Instructor:Course:Date:EconomicsQuestion 1 According to the labor discipline model, there is an assumption that the best response in terms of the efforts of the workers is known by the employers. In this case, e (w, m, z) whereby, w is the given wage rate, m is the monitoring level and z is the option of the exogenous fall back.It is worth mentioning that, at the beginning of each period, the selection and announcement by the employer is carried out. The termination probability is determined as t (e, m) e (0, 1) com t e 0. The wage rate is given as w and each hour monitoring level given by m.The utility of the workers is given by the function u = u (w, e) whereby u n 0 e u e 0. In this case, the worker is able to vary e, so that the present value of the expected utility of that worker is maximized. If the time preference for the individual worker Is given at the rate of I, then the workers present utility can be determined as follows V = u (w, e) + [1 t (e)] v + t (e) z} 1 + 1 + ICharacteristics of the modelThere is the transparency of the transactions, which means that the exchange of goods and services are easily observed. The contract that specifies the characteristics of these complete contracts are freely enforceable without incurring any cost.Contracts are subjected to the exogenous claim enforcement. This means that transgressions in the contracts are easily detected and redressed. Any transaction whose terms has been disputed can be specified in such a contract in which there needs to be a mutual agreement.Costs There are agency problems created by this model like more costs arising from the opaqueness of the aspects of transactions that are not expressed in the contract. These results into costs that the firm has to incur given that the contract had already been entered into. These costs are implied in the contract. The effort is expensive to measure and observe, at the management expectation level, the effort is costly to the w orker although subjectively. It is worth noting also that the transgressions are not readily admissible in the courts of law, therefore, all the efforts geared towards seeking justice on the basis of transgressions all are wasted. Any costs incurred in the process are incurred by the firm.Question 2 Given the workers utility u = u (a, w, e) whereby a represents the work place amenities and u a 0V = u (w, e) + [1 t (e)] v + t (e) z} 1 + 1 + IGiven that utility a = 0, then u being a function a, w and e, it means then that;a=0, w =0 and e =0. It is worth noting ,however, that work place amenity cannot be less than zero.e is the level of effort that is being expended by the firm, it is a cost to the firm, therefore, there is a need that it is equal to zero. This ensures that the costs of the firm are minimizedTherefore, v w =o, v e =0, v a= 0b) The profit and derivative of x are assigned the positives. Given that the costs have been determined to be at the minimum, the profit of the firm is a positive value.c) It is possible to raise the amenities level at the place of work and not affect the employer if the workers efficiency and productivity can be increased in order to raise the levels of profitability to cover for the additional costs of increasing the level of worker amenityd) Yes, given the values of a = 0, w =0 and e =0. Both make up the efficient pareto.Question 3 This is due to the innate abilities. The innate ability of an individual who has attained a college education has a positive correlation with the earnings It is also worth noting that the wage rate structure is not exogenous to the firms. They are critical instruments that are used to elicit efforts, for example, behavior from the workers. Therefore, labor power does not only entail the capacity to offer services and perform the labor, but it encompasses behavior, skills and other characteristic that an individual with more education can easily elicit and that are the central pillars to the human capital theory. This explains the reasons why there is a faster rise of the wages of a college educated worker than that of the high school worker.b) 2008 and 1977 college graduates profile changesIn the year 1977, the earnings of male and female graduates were less compared to the year 2008. This is analyzed as below;Group 1977199120052008Male graduates % 9% 11% 12% 12.3Female graduates % 6% 8.2% 11% 13Men with first degree% 12% 14% 21% 21.5Female with first degree% 10% 14% 22% 23In the year 1977 the earnings of female were lower than those of the males. This can be attributed to the fact that the female spent less time at work and more time back tending to the families as tradition demanded. The women workers worked as households and had other responsibilities like giving birth and raising the children from home. This means that the time attached to the paid labor by the women was less as compared to time spent by the males. This explains why the women received a lesser pay than their male counterparts. The women were also more conservative and would change to the circumstances in order to suit into the requirements of the jobs. Therefore, the male individual who would easily change central to the human capital theory got a higher pay. in the year 2008, as time progressed, women became more aggressive and would now change to fit into the circumstances and requirements of the job. They would change their behavior easily as compared to their conservative nature of the year 1977. This explains why the rise in income comparable to that of their male count...

Effective Parenting A Relationship Between Caregivers...

Parenting usually occurs between the different generations or different birth cohorts at the same generation which is the subsystem within the family, for example, parents and child, grandparents and child, sibling (Lerner, Noh Wilson, 1998). Sometimes, when children’s parents or grandparents are missing, uncle(s), aunt(s), or even neighbor(s) may take the responsibility of parenting. Usually it takes the form of the elder one taking care of the younger one. Parenting is a two-way relationship between caregivers and the one who is being cared, which â€Å"can extend through all or major parts of the respective life spans of these groups; may engage all institutions within a culture (including educational, economic, political, and social ones); and is embedded in the history of a people--as that history occurs within the natural and designed settings within which the group lives (Lerner, Noh Wilson, 1998, para 4).† Effective Parenting Effective parenting refers to the process that facilitate physical, emotional, psychological and social development of children/care-receivers, improve their skills and ability, prevent and/or modify their problematic behaviors (Winter, Morawska Sanders, 2012) as well as promote their resilience so as to enable them to encounter challenges and satisfy their own needs without child maltreatment. Why or why not? Discuss. Answers: Introduction: Slater Gordon Limited is among Australias leading national consumer law firms. The very mission of the company is to provide affordable access to high quality legal services on a consistent basis. The history of the company reflects back to a small room in which the foundation of the business was laid down by Mr. William (Bill) Slater and Hugh Gordon who initiated the service union for workplace entitlements and claims in the Australian Railway Unions Unity Hall Building on Bourke Street in Melbourne in 1935. Though Hugh Gordon lost his life in the Second World War during an aircraft encounter by German night fighters, his name is still included in the business due to his gratuitous contributions. Bill Slater laid the foundation by introducing an act in the Parliament as an Attorney General and welcomed the footprints of Workmen Compensation Act. However, he died in 1960 leaving behind the huge responsibility of managing the firm to its partners. His death was a huge grief for the n ation but the firm kept on working in the direction of legal welfare to people (Media.slatergordon.com.au 2017). The beginning of legal services in United Kingdom is much earlier. It dates back 25 years to the 1920s where Mr. Russell Jones and Walker laid the foundation (as the company was known at that time). This firm was also determined to provide justice to workers and other people with the help of prevalent laws and landmarked a successful career through winning numerous cases (Media.slatergordon.com.au 2017). Today Slater Gordon Limited has marked its name as a leading consumer law firm in Australia as well as United Kingdom. It employs around 1210 people covering 54 locations throughout Australia and around 3130 people covering 25 locations in the United Kingdom. Its head office is in London. Further, its activities are not confined to workmen laws and entitlements but have grown to specialist legal services in wide range of areas. The areas cover liability and compensation law, general services like family and relationship laws, wills, estate development and planning etc. with over 70 year history in dealing with cases for socially and economically disabled. The major cases involve commercial and professional negligence cases as well as estate negligence litigations. It is also involved in a number of class actions and recently won the recovery case of survivors of drug thalidomide which caused several children severely handicapped leading to permanent disablement in the 1960s (Media.s latergordon.com.au 2017). 1. Examining the share price history and history of traded volumes over the past five years, identifying the main causes of changes in the share price: Slater Gordon was the first among the various law firms, which got them listed in the stock exchanges. The firm has a long list of legendary victories against many blue chip companies. However, the successful lawyers though accomplished in establishing in a legal giant but could not execute it well in the hedge funds. The main concern among the investors is whether the firm is able to execute what it plans for and the available knowledge and equipment is adequate for bearing the load of possible heavy risk if the market does not turns out positive (Media.slatergordon.com.au 2017). The share price history of Slater Gordon is much like a roller coaster. Since, the firm was first to get itself listed in the stock exchange, it got a good response initially with a positive moving market value. Then the ever-expanding plans of the firm posed some danger to the life of its shares in the market especially when compared to those of competitors with much equipment to back up their market position (Media.slatergordon.com.au 2017). Figure 1: Depicting the share price movement of Slater and Gordon Limited (Source: Reuters Australia 2017) The overall share price movement of Slater and Gordon Limited for 5 years could be identified from the above figure. In addition, rapid increment in share price of the company is already seen during the 2012 fiscal year. However, after the stock touched the price level of 8 to stated to decline with a price level of 0.09. This rapid decline in shares mainly occurred after the announcement of the fiscal years annual report. The overall announcement of loss incurred by the company in 2016 fiscal year mainly declined its share price. The decline in share price mainly resulted from the strong selling, which was conducted by banks to recover their debts from the company. This discounted prices offered by the bank on share price of Slater and Gordon Limited mainly forced its share price to free fall. Palmer and Palmer (2017) stated that overall share price movement mainly portrays the The following events incurred, which led to the decline in its overall share price. Slater Gordons books were found erroneous leading to a sharp decline in the share price of the company. The suspicions lead to a routine review of the books of the company by ASIC. The Chief Financial Officer of the company Mr. Wayne Brown departed after serving the company for 12 years. His departure news came as a negative slung for the company. In the end of year 2015, there was an announcement of slower earnings of the company for the beginning of year 2016. This announcement again lead to fall in share prices however, the management later on confirmed of earning well in future. Due to constant fall in the share price of the company, it was removed from ASX 100. A leading law firm Maurice Blackburn launched a class action against the company. Purchase of worth $1.3 billion professional services wing of UK firm Quindell. The purchased wing was investigated to be involved in fraudulent activities and had been directed to restate its accounts earlier (Ju, Leland and Senbet 2014). Over the year 2016, it has twice altered its accounts relating to 2014 and 2015, the earnings guidance has dropped and some accounting standards are changed altogether. These changes have played a very important role in the $2bn plunge in its share value. Figure 2: Depicting the price volume movement of Slater and Gordon Limited (Source: Reuters Australia 2017) Moreover, the overall surge in volume could only be witnessed in 2016, where maximum of the shareholders stated to sell its shares in the market. In addition, after the announcement of the fund conducted by the company the share price volumes has rapidly surged, which indicates the low share price quoted by the company over the period of time. Watson (2015) stated that share price volume mainly indicates the overall price action trend of a company. The company reported a loss of nearly $1 billion for the first half of the financial year 2016. The companys shares are worth less than 30c, creating a loss for the investors. Once, the companys shares moved to $8 each which are now generating losses of around $2 billion for the investors. Further, the rivals of the company are generating more class actions inching themselves more closer to the business level of the company. The current manager of the company, Mr. Andrew Grech has also been talked out for resignation. Before the acquisitio n of Quindells professional services division, which is now known as Slater Gordon Solutions, the company had $563m of work under way on its books (Reuters Australia 2017). However, the vendor business had $420m, calculating a total work value of $983m. However, by the end of June, that number of impending cases under the business of the company and its value dropped to $826m. Nevertheless the latest accounts depicts that the company now thinks its real value was just $677m, showing a discrepancy of $149m. Almost 80 per cent of the difference of $149m related to Slater Gordons existing business, which had nothing to do with Quindell. In other words, the work valued at $118m had totally disappeared which was expected to turn into cash one day. According to the law firms, the reason for this difference is the adoption of a more conservative approach for preparation of its accounts. Late last year, it long time auditor, the company for Ernst Young ditched Pitcher Partners and the for mer were bought under investigation by the Australian Securities Investments Commission. Thus, a successful story of accomplished lawyers is slowly turning out to be a world of poorly executed deals during the move of making themselves worlds largest plaintiff legal firm (Media.slatergordon.com.au 2017). 2. Calculating the market capitalisation of the company as of 2016 and stating whether it is under-priced or over-priced: Growth Year Dividend Growth 2013 0.07 2014 0.08 14.29% 2015 0.09m 12.50% Current growth rate 12.50% Current Dividend 0.09 Risk free rate 2.68% SP 200 SGH Average 0.03556184% -0.38427611% Covar 0.000101298 std (SP200) 0.0070 Beta 2.085870272 cost of equity 0.035557275 DI 0.10125 Theoretical Stock Price 3.54 Actual Stock Price 0.09 Table 1: Depicting valuation of Slater and Gordon Limited (Source: As created by the author) From the overall evaluation of table, theoretical share price of Slater Gordons has mainly derived, which could in turn help in identifying the over value or undervalue condition of the company. Watson (2015) mentioned that use of dividend discount model Emilia loves investors to identify or gauge into the current share price valuation of the company and determined whether it is overvalued undervalued. Figure 3: Depicting the price volume movement of Slater and Gordon Limited (Source: Media.slatergordon.com.au 2017) The above figure mainly depicts the relevant loans and debts that is been accumulated by the company over the period of 2016 fiscal year. The accumulation of bad debts is mainly conducted by the bank to ensure high-end availability of funds to support its activities. The company uses both short term and long-term borrowings to support its activities and reduce shortage of funds. On the other hand, Kemp et al. (2016) criticises that high-end accumulation of loans might hamper the overall financial condition of the company. Slater and Gordon Limited has mainly used Debt to support its overall operations the company issued shares as a Collateral for the Debt accumulation Process. This increased issuance of shares to the debt holder may be increased. The debt is mainly Accumulated by banks which during 2016 resulted in a massive sell in is shares. The main problem that was conducted by Slater and Gordon Limited was the high accumulation of debt without adequate research. The company coul d have reduced debt accumulation and conducted ethical operations, which might have decreased the overall insolvency condition.
